Yoga is generally considered a form of exercise rather than a therapy, but actually it is both! It is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on breathing, flexibility and strength in order to boost physical and mental well-being.
There are numerous styles of yoga. Some are quite strenouos and would count towards the moderate activity we are all advised to undertake, but many forms are not strenious enough. However, yoga is a strengthening exercise which is considered equally important as it helps improve and maintain strength, flexibility and balance.
Many leisure centres and health clubs across Essex offer yoga and some local authorites offer free or subsidised classes. There are also many specialist yoga studios that offer smaller classes and, often, one to one sessions for specific conditions.
