Reiki is a wonderfully gentle, yet very powerful form of healing. It is an ancient Japanese art of natural energy healing rediscovered in the early 20th century by Dr Mikao Usui.
Electro-magnetic energy
Practitioners believe that Reiki can help the healing process of any form of illness be it physical, emotional, mental or spiritual. By using the correct frequency energy for each different condition Reiki can bring about quite profound improvements in many different illnesses or diseases, anything from depression and bereavement to cancer and arthritis. It works on any level to heal and release pain and disruption thus rebalancing the system and returning the body to homeostasis (natural balance).
Reiki translates as Universal Life-Force Energy, Rei meaning Universal energy, Ki meaning life-force energy. This life-force energy is the energy that flows through all living things. It is well known and accepted in the East, known as Ki in Japan, Chi in China, Prana in India and many other names in other cultures.
This life-force energy flows through our bodies in a similar way to our blood. If it becomes imbalanced, blocked or disrupted it causes weakness and “dis-ease” within the body, which in turn predisposes us to physical, mental or emotional conditions.
This electro-magnetic energy is accepted by the medical profession and is sometimes used for diagnostic purposes. Wherever there is illness in the body there is disruption to the energy. Reiki works by channelling the correct frequency energy into the body to remove the blockage and rebalance the energy thereby removing the problem and the physical symptoms.
Balancing the flow of energy
Many Eastern practices are aimed at balancing the flow of energy within the body to prevent illness and disease taking hold, these include: acupuncture, shiatsu, yoga, tai chi, in fact most martial arts and even reflexology is energy based.
It’s about time we, in the West, recognise the importance of our life-force energy and start to work with it. We have previously understood so little about it and deemed its existence so unimportant that we actually have no word in our language for it, we can only use those from other cultures. We are now slowly realising what benefits there are in maintaining a healthy flow of energy in the body.
A gentle, non-invasive therapy
Receiving Reiki is a wonderfully calming and perspective bringing experience. Clients can often have quite profound and very personal experiences during a healing.
It is a completely non-invasive therapy as it is performed with the client fully clothed and hands are simply laid-on, although it can also be carried out completely hands-off. Hands-off simply means that the practitioner keeps their hands slightly above the body at all times rather than laying them directly on. It is equally effective either way.
Learning Reiki – as a therapy or for yourself
For anyone that learns Reiki it can be a life changing experience, bringing a whole new dimension and understanding to our lives. When someone learns Reiki and receives their first attunement, they begin a path of personal and spiritual development. How much Reiki changes your life depends on how much you wish to develop and how much time you choose to invest in your own progression.
It can be learnt as a therapy with which to help others or simply for use on yourself and family. Either way holds great benefits, beginning with your own personal and spiritual furtherance.
Reiki – a way of Life
For practitioners Reiki is not just a therapy, it is a way of life. It requires constant self-healing to increase the frequency of the energy and keep it flowing freely. When you learn Reiki you agree to live your life by the five Reiki Ideals: just for today I will let go of anger, just for today I will let go of worry, just for today I will give thanks for my many blessings, just for today I will do my work honestly, just for today I will be kind to my neighbour and every living thing. So you see for practitioners and particularly masters, it requires a certain level of dedication and desire to follow the Reiki path.
Spiritual – but not religious
It is a very spiritual practice but this does not mean religious. It can be learnt, received or given by anyone of any religious background. Whether or not you believe it will work, it will!
There are so many people out there suffering unnecessarily. If only we can reach them all and urge them to try Reiki, it could change their lives. Whatever the problem, however severe, however minor, Reiki could make a difference.
I cannot stress strongly enough the benefits of Reiki, used as a complementary therapy, for someone with cancer. It strengthens the immune system therefore aiding the body to fight the cancer itself, as well as this Reiki works to directly fight the cancer and break down the harmful cells. It can also help reduce the side effects of chemotherapy making it a less traumatic experience.
Bring clarity to your life
Have you ever felt restless with your life? Felt that there must be more, something more meaningful? Are you looking for direction? This is often how people feel when they first come to Reiki, it is the perfect time to learn it. It will bring the clarity you are looking for and show you the direction you should head in. It makes the transition from one path to another
