A visualisation is defined as: ‘the formation of a mental image of something.’ In terms of wellbeing, a visualisation is based on the premise that the mind and body are connected and that by providing your mind with positive images, creative imagery and self-suggestion, emotions can be changed that subsequently have a physical effect on the body.
People use visualisations for a number of reasons: to help them move past obstacles in their lives; to relax and relieve stress; help cope with chronic pain; and accomplish goals such as losing weight or quitting smoking. Many professionals including athletes use visualisations to help them perform better.
Many therapists use visualisations with their clients, often in conjunction with other therapies. But visualisations can be done with support, in a group or even on your own.
Whatever your reason, do try our visualisations. And do let us know how you get on!
