Relate South Essex is a local independent charity working within the Relate National Federation which has Relate centres across the country. Relate is the UK’s largest provider of relationship support.
Relate South Essex has been working in the Southend, Thurrock and Basildon communities for over sixty-five years. Our longevity can be attributed to our desire to actively respond to the community and provide services that are needed and valued. As members of the Relate Federation, we offer a trusted and respected Counselling and Mediation service.
We work with couples, individuals, families and young people within our two centres at 29 Harcourt Ave in Southend on Sea and 4 Cherrydown West, Basildon, and within local schools.
In addition to our counselling work we deliver a number of workshops such as Peer Mediation within schools and Marriage Preparation classes.
We run a Family Mediation service where those who have decided to separate/divorce can work with a Mediator to arrange family finances & child contact arrangements, reducing the need to attend court.
Family breakdown costs the UK economy £49 billion each year according to the Centre for Social Justice.
Here at Relate South Essex we help over 3000 individuals with their relationship issues and this number is growing as the pressures of modern life continue to mount.
Our counsellors adhere to the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) ethical framework and our Mediators adhere to the Quality Mark through the Legal Aid Agency.
Our counsellors are highly experienced before joining the team with a minimum of Diploma Level 4. With further training they will then specialise in specific areas such as couples work, family work, young people’s counselling, and sex therapy. All counsellors have regular supervision to ensure they are fit to practice and have a minimum of thirty hours annual continuous development to ensure their skills and knowledge are current. All have regular background checks to ensure your safety.
We have a small admin team who work tirelessly to ensure the charity runs smoothly and this is overseen by seven local volunteer Trustees. We look to employ local people and use local services to support our community and as an ethical charity we continue to seek further ways to reduce our environmental impact.
Additional volunteering support is always welcome in areas such as IT services; marketing, PR and social media; and property maintenance.
