Flower essences work with the life force of a selected plant. It is believed that remedies made from flowers act to restore inner balance and harmony, thus enabling the body to heal itself. Flower essence therapy has been used for centuries, and much folk lore exists. Today, the best known flower essences are Bach Flower Remedies, developed by Edward Bach in the 1930s. These are all based on English flowering plants. Flower essences have also been developed that use plants from other parts of the world such as North America and Australia.
A practitioner selects essences appropriate for the client, taking into account their personality and current emotional issues. A flower essence practitioner will frequently offer other modalities and essences may be prescribed as complementary to the other treatment.
