If you look at the full introduction to Healthy Life Essex on the home page HERE, you will see we talk about the Green Gym. We have great parks, beautiful countryside and a wonderful coastline in Essex. Just getting outside in the fresh air, and getting in touch with nature is so good for us. It is the essence of Healthy Life Essex and the reason we have what might at first sight seem quite an eclectic mix of articles from complementary therapies to countryside and wildlife.
We are therefore delighted that Angela Squires, Southend’s Health Improvement Practitioner, has developed a programme of fun, fitness and relation sessions in Priory Park, starting with a launch event on 4th July. The events are held lunchtimes and early evening on Wednesdays and Thursdays until 9th August, so even if you are working you should be able to get to some of the sessions.
Keep an eye on the Healthy Life Essex Fitness and Exercise events calendar to make sure you don’t miss any of these fun classes.

‘I’m very excited to present the flyer and timetable for MoveOut. MOVEOUT LEAFLET v4-A5 It’s a programme of fun, fitness and relaxation sessions in Priory Park. The programme aims to encourage working age adults who live or work in the Southend Borough to get outdoors and make the most of Southend’s local parks. You can try new activities, meet new people or just join in with your colleagues.
When was the last time you did the egg and spoon race or played rounders? Always wanted to try Tai Chi or have a go at walking football but didn’t know where to go?
The programme is led by Public Health and the Council’s Sports and Leisure team. The fun and informal sessions will be delivered in Priory Park by experienced instructors. The free launch event is 4th July 6-8pm. Please see attached the full timetable.
If you pay in advance the costs are discounted and you get the 6th week for free. You can come along to the launch and pay or pitch up and pay on the days. Places may be limited for some activities so book ahead to avoid disappointment. For payment details, to book places for sessions or for further information contact, Angela Squires on 01702 534456 or email: angelasquires@southend.gov.uk.
I hope you can promote these fantastic activites within your workplace and come along yourselves. By supporting your workforce to be more physically active you can sign up to the Public Health Responsibility Deal which would give your organisation access to other funded resources. If this would be of interest do contact me.
