Scholarships for full-time students are available to learn Transcendental Meditation (TM) to help with reducing students’ stress
The Maharishi Foundation has raised donations to create a scholarship fund to support full-time university or college students aged 18-25 to learn TM as a way of reducing students stress.
The pandemic has put everyone under pressure of one kind or another and at present, it is students who are in the spotlight. Leaving home for the first time is a source of anxiety which is aggravated by policies of self-isolation and cancelling of face to face teaching.
Ignazia Posadinu, director of the MA program in Translation, Interpreting and Subtitling at Essex University suggests that students may benefit from Transcendental Meditation.
Transcendental Meditation is a simple, effortless method of meditation that can be successfully practised by anyone. It requires no change in belief or lifestyle. There are more than 400 peer-reviewed studies providing evidence that Transcendental Meditation can help cope with stress and anxiety and increase resistance to disease.
TM is known to:
- Improve academic performance
- Reduce stress & anxiety
- Build confidence & self-esteem
- Improve relationships
- Improve sleep, health & well-being
- Increase focus & creativity
- Increase happiness & inner peace

AS A TOOL TO STRENGTHEN THE IMMUNE SYSTEM
During the pandemic, a TM App has been developed to meet the need for social distancing. The Digital Course reduces the requirement for in-person sessions. The first session is private, one to one in-person instruction with a certified TM teacher.
The following three sessions are completed at-home on a smartphone; these interactive sessions consist of videos and Q&A personally-guided by Dr.Tony Nader, the leader of the TM Organisation worldwide, paired with daily video meetings with your personal teacher. So unlike other meditation apps, the student is in contact with a certified teacher via zoom.
Due to the exceptional circumstances of the pandemic and the particular stress that students are under, the charity responsible for teaching Transcendental Meditation is reducing the fee for learning for students 12 participating centres running a special pilot project from £290.00 to £95.00 (which can be paid in 4 instalments) for this autumn only.
In Essex, the scheme is being run by Barry Spivack based in North Essex. Contact Barry by email: barry.spivack@tm.org

In addition, there are ten grants from the NHS so that any person (whatever their age) who has a long term health condition and lives in NE Essex can learn Transcendental Meditation for free. The faculty as Essex University took advantage of this grant.
