Hi, my name is Kelli
I’m a Poet, Local Volunteer, and Activist, based in Chelmsford City centre. I have a passion for learning, and am interested in all manner of subjects, from the stories of the past to stories of today to the myriad of ideas about the future.
I found poetry around 2 years ago when dealing with crippling depression; my partner at the time suggested I try to write down the thoughts that were compounding as painful knots in my head. So, I started to write.
Poetry helps me make sense of this world
As I wrote, the lines, became rhymes. The process was blissfully relieving. With each truthful line wrote I felt a weight lift from my shoulders, and a knotted thought disperse from my mind.
Since then I have researched dozens of different subjects, and written hundreds more poems. Poems that help me understand myself and my feelings, but also poems that help me to make sense of this world and the various systems that govern it.
Inspiring, empowering and educating others
Poetry has had such a positive impact on my life that I now dedicate my time to inspiring, empowering, and educating others through poetry. I’m currently in the process of starting up a local social community called ‘The Poetry Circle Chelmsford’; a safe and inclusive space that will allow community members to share stories, ideas, research, and perspectives, through the medium of poetry.
Rise Up and seek out the truth!
My poem ‘Rise Up’ is one of my earlier Poems and evolved out of the end part of a poem I wrote about the greed and human rights injustices that go hand in hand with today’s form of Christmas.
I hope my Spoken Word Collaboration connects with you.
‘Rise Up’ is trying to bring awareness to the fact that this economic system that we all live in, this system that governs our daily lives, is set up in such a way that it is destroying the beauty and diversity of life on this planet.
‘Rise Up’ calls out for people to pay attention to what we are doing, and to take responsibility for our daily actions.
It is asking us to look at the bigger picture, to ask questions, to seek out truth, and creatively put our heads hearts and hands together, to heal the damage we have already done.
It encourages us to recognise that we can create a new system, one that works with the wisdom of the diverse natural world, rather than against it.
Capitalism doesn’t work
Capitalism, as it is today does not work! That is clear for all to see…
Observe the crippling illnesses destroying our inner worlds, flooding over into our outer worlds, manifesting as, toxic waste, destruction, and devastation. This cycle of greed, ignorance and apathy, must change! Social and environmental needs must come before profit!
I am truly grateful that many people, are waking up to the reality of our impact on this planet. And, I believe, that if we all share our truths, our ideas, and dreams, we can create a far better reality than the one that exists today.
[You might also like to read Eileen Peck’s series of blogs- Looks like the worlds gone mad!] …We CAN make a difference
I have people tell me from time to time, ‘well there’s nothing we can do.’ ‘It’s out of our control.’ But stories of the past, the stories of today, and my own experiences, tell me otherwise!
A few years ago, I was 100% part of the problem, a mis-informed follower, ignorant to the natural world, born into a polluted sea of popular culture.
But, with the fake life and image I had created, came depression, plunging me into darkness, where seeds of awareness grew.
The power of sharing your stories, dreams and ideas
Although it has been a struggle to face my fears, and the ugly truths of this world, the very act of doing so has freed me from the prison of my own mind.
Embracing the sometimes painful truth, has allowed me to truly help bring about, growing positive changes in my own life, in my family’s life, and in my local community. This is something every one of us can do. We all have stories, dreams, and Ideas.
When we express and share our truths, we begin to understand ourselves, understand each other, and understand how, and why we should guide the changes in lives, in positive, compassionate, and healing directions. In directions where life, is of more importance than stuff.
