Self-Love Pledge by Katie Oman
Have you ever felt rather different from your peers? A feeling that you just do not fit in? Maybe you were bullied at school? You feel unattractive and unsuccessful? Perhaps you had a difficult childhood and have never felt loved? Or perhaps the images portrayed on social media of beautiful people with beautiful bodies, beautiful families, and beautiful lives has made you feel totally inferior – an increasingly common situation.
Whatever the cause may have been, if you are unhappy with yourself, if you continually look in the mirror and criticise yourself, then Self-Love Pledge by Katie Oman is a book you need to buy and devour right now!
Self-Help Pledge is a delightful little book that is particularly effective because Katie is so authentic, detailing her own trials and tribulations from when she was a young girl. She had loving parents, albeit they divorced when she was eight but was bullied continuously at school. Of her tormentors, she says:
“Their cruel jokes and torments had fully lodged themselves in my brain and had become my truth.”
At sixteen, that is a heavy burden to carry and affected Katie’s life for many years.
Many of you may recognise the series of events that followed: in order to feel loved, she started dating men who were just no good for her and a series of toxic relationships followed.
By 2016, Katie was living in a loveless and broken marriage, with three young children, living hand to mouth and seemingly no way out. Eventually, when she felt she could bear it no longer, she broke down. It was at this point Katie’s journey to love herself began:
‘It is said in the darkest moments, most people call upon a power greater than themselves. Despite my spiritual teachings and my inspirational words to others, I had not done the one thing that would’ve bought me guidance, love, and support: I hadn’t asked for help. I was carrying the weight of everything on my shoulders, and I was rapidly running out of strength and energy.
Now, as my body shook with desperate sobs, I practically screamed my heart out.
“Help me, please! I can’t do this anymore!” ‘
And then, slowly, something powerful inside her began to awaken…. Katie’s journey to self-love, happiness, and reclaiming her own inner power and confidence had begun.
But no, that was not the end of the story. The ‘happy ever after’ ending took a few years to accomplish and there were many pitfalls along the way. But Katie has now learnt to love herself, not with any sense of vanity but with complete acceptance of who she is. And she is the happiest and most self-fulfilled she has ever been.
Katie details that journey to self-love and happiness and provides lots of tips, advice, and exercises to help you along the way.
If you are in a rather dark place right now, do buy the book. I wish you great success on your journey.
