Could you become a befriender and support the elderly in Southend, Rochford and Castle Point?
Loneliness and isolation is an increasing problem for many people in their later years, particularly those over 75. Even if they are physically capable of looking after themselves sufficiently to remain in their own homes – and an estimated 2 million people in England over the age of 75 live alone – many older perhaps lack the mobility and ability to get out of the house and socialise. They perhaps seldom see family members and friends, going for weeks on end without speaking to a friend, neighbour or family member.
Loneliness frequently leads to depression which can quickly cause a serious decline in physical and mental health and wellbeing.
Age Concern Southend-on-Sea (ACSOS) are looking for volunteers who could spend an hour or two a week to visit or call an isolated person in Southend, Rochford or Castle Point.
Could you spare a little time to beome a befriender and help beat loneliness in our community?
