From an early age, the majority of us are taught to take the stresses of life with the positives. From starting school, through to job interviews and the usual every day worries, stress forms an inevitable part of our journey through life. But what if we fought back against the stress to encourage our own wellbeing?
Anyone who’s anyone could name a stressful time in their lives – I’ve just finished my A Level exams and don’t think I had a proper night sleep for weeks! Even now, I wake up in a cold sweat thinking I’m supposed to be revising Russian History.
Adrenaline can have a positive impact on your performance, but you reach a point where you wonder whether the stress is in fact hampering your opportunities – and it’s before this point we need to make adjustments, which, in truth, is easier said than done, especially since all our lives we’ve been living with some sort of stress.
There are so many simple changes we can make, such as getting plenty of rest and embracing the natural world to put things into perspective. I recently attended a talk on chiropractic treatment, and we joked that cats sleep for ‘about 25 hours a day’ yet are always content and never grumpy. It’s true! While I’m not suggesting we mimic a cat’s lifestyle and curl up on a bed and refuse to move unless an incentive of food is given (my cat has got things sussed…) it got me thinking that the simple act of sleep could prove just what we all need!
