Long-term friends Purdy Rubin, an NHS Nurse, and Charlotte Figg, a horticulturist, have launched a new company: Purdy & Figg
Purdy & Figg’s star product is a delightful and highly effective hand sanitiser spray.
Unlike traditional hand sanitiser products that tend to be sticky and dehydrating, Purdy & Figg has created a quick-drying spray formula with over 70% alcohol, gentle witch hazel extract and natural essential oils, leaving wonderfully soft hands. Its clean & fresh citrus scent blends niaouli, pink grapefruit and sweet orange and. most importantly, it kills 99.99% of bacteria.
The new hand sanitiser comes in eye-catching 50ml recyclable glass bottles and is certified to European antibacterial standards (EN1276).
Purdy & Figg is a real kitchen table start-up. Or, more accurately, a ‘garage laboratory’ start-up!
But since officially launching their new product just a couple of weeks ago, they have sold over 20,000 bottles.

Before the birth of the brand, the duo dabbled in ‘Breaking Bad’ style experiments at their Buckinghamshire home as they were concerned about the harsh chemicals and toxins people were using on their skin. They wanted to develop a set of natural household cleaning products so good to use they would actually encourage you to clean!
During the cold and flu season at the end of 2019, Purdy’s sons Charlie and Jack suggested they make a hand sanitising spray which, fortuitously, has been launched just in time for people to use during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Charlotte Figg, Co-Founder, said:
We wanted to create a bacteria-killing and moisturising spray alternative to the gels found everywhere else, a formula so natural that you could make it at home. Demand has grown so quickly that we’ve grown out of Purdy’s garage and have now moved into full production! This has enabled us to donate care packages to the NHS, with the help of delicious donations from Fortnum & Mason and Hotel Chocolat.”
The new hand sanitiser comes in eye-catching 50ml recyclable glass bottles and is certified to European antibacterial standards (EN1276).
Purdy & Figg are now concentrating on developing different size bottles, including refills, with a range of different scents.
Purdy & Figg is featured in our Organic, Natural & Eco-Friendly directory.
The hand sanitisers are available to buy direct from Purdy & Figg | Additional stockists include: Heal’s, Naken, Skinny Tan

They were already dabbling in natural home care products when Purdy’s sons Charlie and Jack suggested they try making a hand sanitising spray. Read their story here. […]
I absolutely love the hand cleanser that our mutual friend Tricia gave me. It is in our kitchen in Brittany being enthusiastically tried out by all our friends.. I am going to need more!
