If you are looking for a new activity to help improve your fitness and calm a tense mind, Yogalates could be the answer.
I recently discovered this exercise; which is a fusion of the exercises of yoga and pilates, through wanting a more vigorous workout that yoga gave me.
It was by trying a DVD by Lousie Solomon, who created the trademark of Yogalates, that introduced me to this unique exercise.
Her website (http://yogalates.com.au/home/aboutyogalates.html) states; “Yoga dates back to around 3000BC and aims to create union between the body and mind, improving overall wellbeing. It enhances strength, stamina, aerobic capacity, flexibility, balance and mental clarity.”
About pilates, she says that it shares many similar postures with yoga. But it; “emphasizes the importance of utilizing the stabilizing muscles of the body while in movement to create a very safe and strong foundation to exert movement.”
I have found that the claims that Yogalates strengthens core muscles and generally tones the whole body are indeed true. Also that the breathing techniques help to release any stress or tension in your mind.
Others may find benefits, apart from those merely wanting to improve their fitness. Louise Solomon says that Yogalates is ideal for those suffering from arthritis or osteoporosis and post-natal women.
So, an exercise for all ages and fitness levels. At the very least, Yogalates will help ease any mental strain often experienced at the end of the day! Namaste.

Thanks Laura. This sounds a great way of exercising. Do you know of any Yogalates classes in Essex?
