A workshop with a difference, held at Hanningfield Visitor Centre.
Create stunning lantern centerpieces which can be used anywhere inside or outside on your patio during the summer
Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that produces a cyan blue image when pretreated fabric (or paper), which is made light sensitive is exposed to ultraviolet light – sunlight or UVA Lamp.
You will make a beautiful blue and white fabric lantern in this fun and rewarding workshop that doesn’t demand any previous skills. We will show/guide you how to make a composition of flat objects such as leaves, petals, feathers and grasses which we will gather from the beautiful Thorndon woods and arrange these on fabric pre-coated with Cyanotype solution. Then, you will expose your design to daylight (or a UVA Lamp of which we have a number if the sun decides to play hide and seek) to create a lovely blue and white print.
Cyanotype isn’t an exact science, which is part of its charm, and every print will generate an interesting and different result. It is an amazing and very satisfying process!
We will let the fabric dry and indulge in a light lunch and then you will then be shown how to construct a fabric lantern from your Cyanotype fabric to take home with you. You can also bring some personal items such as necklaces, lace, ribbons etc. Basically, any item that will create a solid image and is relatively flat.
Lantern Making Kit and all other accessories as well as a light light lunch and tea/coffee throughout are included as part of the workshop.
