This adult-only course at Abbotts Hall Farm is an opportunity to learn more about this iconic habitat and no previous knowledge is required.
The course will focus the ecology of saltmarshes, as well as conservation initiatives and surveying techniques. There will be a classroom-based morning session followed by a field-based afternoon session where you can put your saltmarsh identification and surveying skills into practice.
Saltmarshes epitomise the Essex coastline and are valuable habitats for both wildlife and people. The uniquely adapted array of saltmarsh plants provide an important feeding ground and refuge for insects, molluscs, crustaceans, juvenile fish and internationally important numbers of birds. Saltmarshes also provide ecosystem services such as reducing flood risks and the effects of storm surges as well as acting as a carbon sink.
