There has been a study, to suggest that apple-shaped women, even if their body weight is normal, who have a waist bigger than 35†(88cm) still have a higher risk of developing asthma.
The fact that a person is overweight can raise the risk of asthma It has been noted, by The Northern California Cancer Centre, of Berkeley, in the journal, Thorax.
The researchers analysed data on over 88,000 females, among which were teachers and administrators.
From the results it was shown that overweight women were about 40% more likely to have asthma than women who are not overweight.
It was found that obese women were more than twice as likely to get asthma and those being extremely obese were three times as likely.
Even so, the researchers found that, even if women were not overweight but had larger waists than 35†(88) cms  they were still at risk of getting the disease.
In the UK there are over 5 million people who have asthma. This number is increasing with each year!!!
Some researchers believe that that the size of the waist can be a more useful indication, because it can reflect levels of visceral fat, which is deposited around the body’s organs.
This kind of fat is different from other types of fat, and can have a more profound effect on our health.
Therefore it is important that people with asthma cut down on their sugar intake to maintain a healthy, balanced diet.
