The Southend branch of the Huntingdon’s Disease Association is appealing for help to make muddy allotment plots more accessible for people in wheelchairs. It is renting two plots near Southend Airport Retail Park to allow disabled members to grown their own vegetables.
The South Essex Organic Gardeners Associated has already donated some fruit bushes. Now they need some manual assistance with some of the development.
Pat Nelson, its allotment project manager explained that they need to lay three paths in, and some shelter. The group needs help with the work and sand for a bed for paving slabs it has already been given. The £16,500 project also needs wood to make raised beds and hopes to build a summerhouse with heating and lighting. If you can help, please call 01702 544606 or her mobile 07941 778202.
The urgent part of this message is that they are looking for someone with a van or truck to help with conveying their paving slabs to the allotment site, because the person who was doing this has had to withdraw for the time being because his wife is expecting a baby any time.
