Are you caring for someone with dementia? Do you live in Southend?
If you are looking after someone with dementia, particularly if you are a more mature person yourself and / or you have your own health challenges, you will know exactly how demanding that can be. As the strain increases to the point where on a day to day basis it becomes almost impossible to cope with, thoughts of your loved one going in to care will inevitably be increasingly on your mind.
So think how much easier it would make your life, and how much more enjoyable for your loved one, if they could go to a specialist day centre where they would enjoy lots of activites and be given a light breakfast and a home cooked lunch.
The good news is that a wonderful day care centre for dementia is opening in Southend on 20th March.
Carers Choices is proud to announce the opening of the Silver Birch Centre, their new Dementia Day Centre at St Luke’s in Southchurch, Southend. From MONDAY 20th MARCH we are offering places at our Dementia specialist centre where our staff will provide a full day of stimulating cognitive activities mixed with music, singing, gentle exercise and much fun and laughter. We have a small garden and access to allotments at the St Lukes Centre (behind St Luke’s Church) and we will be providing a light breakfast, a 2 course home cooked lunch and snacks/drinks throughout the day. Please see our website to view images of our existing centres in Benfleet and Basildon.
The grand opening of the new centre will be on 31st March at 11am, please feel free to pop along and view the centre. We look forward to seeing you there.
There is a cost for the service but, according to your circumstances, social services may be able to cover or help with those costs. Staff at Careers Choices will be happy to advise and help with any necessary applications.
The centre is open 5 days a week from 9.30 to 3.30pm, free taster sessions are available phone 01268 881136 and speak to Angela for further info.
If you live in other areas of Essex or indeed the UK, there may be similar day care centres near you. Contact the social services department of your local council and they should be able to provide appropriate information.

My Mum has Alzheimer’s/Dementia she is 88 years old, her mobility is not great and she uses a Zimmer frame,
She needs help with using the toilet and wears Inco pads.
At the moment she is living with me and I would be interested in her attending a Day Centre, to give her a change of scenery and meeting other people, to give her mental stimulation.
and also to give myself and my husband a break.
She would need transport to get to the centre. Do you arrange this. ?
Would you please contact me, or email me any details please cost etc.
Thank you
