Take your Dad out walking and get him talking this Fathers’ day (Sunday 20 June). Recent studies have shown that walking is a great way to get chatting to your family and this weekend the Ramblers are putting on 333 FREE led walks to help you celebrate Dads everywhere.
A GB-wide poll found that walking is one of the most popular activities for people seeking a good chat with their dad (1). When people were asked which activity they would turn to if they wanted “some time alone to have a good talk with dad” six out of ten respondents chose walking as the pursuit most likely to loosen the tongue. Research on first-time walkers also found that they talked more, learnt more and spent more ‘quality time’ with family members during a stroll (2) showing that it’s never too late to get walking and talking with Dad!
Tom Franklin, Ramblers CEO, Comments: “Ramblers have long known that walking is a great way to loosen the tongue and get talking to friends and family. Walking helps to elevate your mood and with get so many beautiful places to walk across the country you’re never short of things to talk about. It’s no wonder that walking is a British favourite when it comes to having a good chat with Dad.”
