Official figures rate Southend-on-Sea Borough Council in the country’s top ten for recycling a wide range of materials from kerbside collections.
This was revealed in a national survey of 397 local authorities conducted by the Government’s Waste and Resources Action Programme.
The Council’s Executive Councillor for Public Protection and Waste, Councillor Ian Robertson says: “This is excellent news. We are delighted our recycling record has been recognised nationally, and that Southend is in the top ten of so many other authoritiesâ€.
“The result is a thanks to the tremendous work undertaken by the Council in partnership with Cory to improve recycling opportunities in the borough, and it is also a tribute to our residents for making the most of the recycling chances offered.â€
“Congratulations to all concerned, and let’s keep up the good work!  We are doing really well but there is always the opportunity of doing just that little bit betterâ€.
The Managing Director of Cory Environmental Municipal Services Ltd Paul Redman says: “I am proud that Cory has been able to help the Council achieve a position in the top ten and it is good to see the hard work of all of our staff recognised in this wayâ€.
