Brightlinsea Open Gardens comprise of three very interesting and contrasting gardens, albeit very close to each other, in the ancient and unique maritime town of Brightlinsea. The gardens are either side of Church road, about 100yds beyond Autosmith Garage.

Refreshments are available at 44 Chruch Road.

Sandy Hook, 48 Church Road – Peter & ElaineSedwell

A traditional garden reflecting the period house, but with some surprises!

A lawn to the rear of the house is edged with a raised rose bed and colourful borders, flanked with a seeries of arches smothered with roses and clematis.

A small woodland with a stream and pond attracts wildlife and the ‘White Garden’ includes a white border and hosta collection: a sheltered area of peace and calm.

For those interested in old cars and engineering, some pre-war Austins and a model engineering workshop are on view.

51 Church Road – John & Maureen McAuley

A garden with a wow factor that will make you gasp!

As well as many interesting landscape features, there is clever use of statues, pottery and natural stones.

44 Church Road – Mandy Livingstone & Steven Nicholson

This is a typical English country garden planted with a variety of perennials in various shades of blue, pink, white and lemon. Mature trees and evergreen shrubs snake throughout the garden and take you passed a wisteria covered pergola.

On the main patio, sit and listen to the gentle trickle of water from the handmade water feature, where there is a large array of hostas, all displayed in vintage galvanised baths and enamelware.Enjoy your refreshmants here!

Various fire buckets and old watering cans hold alpines, miniature hostas and bedding plants.
