Acxtress Virginia McKenna has been cmpaigning for 15 years for three leopards to be released. The leopards have been caged in inhumane conditions in a zoo in Limassol, Cyprus. They are now being sent to a spacious rescue reserve in South Africa after the new mayor of the town finally admitted the zoo was not suitable for such large animals.
Virginia starred in the 1966 film Born Free and has been an animal welfare campaigner ever since. She and her late husband Travers, co-star in the film, set up the Born Free Foundation 25 years ago.Â
Virginia is overseeing the release of these beautiful cats and their integration into the Shamwari Game Reserve, but says she will continue campaigning until the Limassol Zoo is closed.
