Red Bull, an energy drink popular with youngsters is banned in many countries but is still available in pubs, clubs and supermarkets throughout the UK. The drink contains high levels of caffeine together with a cocktail of other additives and if drunk in large quantities can cause the heartbeat to increase. For anyone with a heart condition, and often people have an inherent weakness they are not aware of, this can prove fatal.
Last year, a young student tragically collapsed on the dance floor of a nightclub and died. She had been drinking Red Bull and other caffeine drinks. It seems she did have a heart condition and that the caffeine in Red Bull had played a part in the tragedy.
Red Bull is not an alcoholic drink and seems quite innocuous, but it is essential people are aware that consuming large amounts can be dangerous. Please make sure you warn your friends and family to be careful.
