Egg Shells
Yes really! According to a study by Dutch researchers dating back to 2002, eggshell calcium helped increase the bone density of post-menopausal women even more than calcium carbonate supplement.
Ray Collins suggests the best way to get your intake of eggshells (because a mouthful of crunchy shells really wouldn’t be pleasant!) is as follows:
- wash empty eggshells in warm water and allow to dry
- grind into small pieces in a coffee grinder, blender or even pestle and mortar
- store in an airtight jar
- mix 1/2 teaspoon of powdered eggshell with juice of half a freshly squeezed lemon.
- the solution will start to bubble. Leave at room temperature for 6-12 hours then take.
- take the 1/2 teasponn mixture daily – this provides about 400mgs of calcium carbonate.
