Sometimes one really does wonder what the point of the Food Standards Agency is. Surely their role is to ensure the food we eat is as healthy and wholesome as possible? It seems not.
The FSA have recently reported that organic food has no superior nutrient value than conventionally grown food.  But they have totally failed to acknowledge that what you do get with conventionally grown foods is a cocktail of chemicals that can be potentially damaging. This is the main reason people purchase organic: not to get extra vitamin C but, conversely, not to be subjected to unwanted herbicides, pesticides and anti-biotics either. And, of course, organic food tastes better, the growing processes do not inflict harm on the environment and livestock is much better cared for.
There has been a huge move towards grow-your- own organic veg which is excellent news. We just hope that this short-sighted report does not damage the move towards a more sustainable way of life.

This is so true Jill! I’ve just been Googling to find other peoples opinions of the FSA report, and it is very refreshing to find that the majority disagree with their sentiment. I’ve just written a blog about it myself, albeit in a more spiritual / Mother Earth sense, so it would be great if you could check it out at http://danielschaumann.blogspot.com 🙂
Hi Daniel
Excellent blog. I would recommend everyone reads it.
Thankyou Jill
