When you give your child cough syrup, pain relievers or anti-biotics you could also unwittingly be giving them additives linked to hyperactive behaviour.
The Food Commission campaign group looked at 70 over-the-counter and prescription medicines and 28 contained one or more of the seven suspect food additives. These are the colours Tartrazine (E102). Quinoline Yellow (E104). Sunset Yellow (E110). Carmoisine (E122). Ponceau 4R (E124) and Allura Red (E129) and the preservative sodium benzoate (E211).
The Commission has posted a list of the products which contain the suspect additives on its website www.actiononadditives.com.
