Hypnotherapy and NLP - How useful will it be for you to know more

Whether you are looking for a rewarding career helping people to help themselves or want to experience personal improvement in your own life, it could be very useful for you to know more about Hypnotherapy and NLP.

Therapies

NLP IS NO FAD OR GIMMICK
NLP (or Neuro Linguistic Programming) is a technology that assists people to gain greater control over their thoughts, feelings and behaviour.

The results and benefits available through use of NLP’s many techniques and processes have long been recognised in sales & business, sports performance & coaching, and now in therapy.

Paul Mckenna has popularised NLP through TV and books (although you could be forgiven for thinking he created it himself!). Tony Robbins, with his fire walk and huge gatherings at London’s Excel, is another dynamic (and very American) proponent of NLP.

SO WHERE DID IT COME FROM?
During the1970’s at the University of Santa Cruz in California USA two geniuses, Richard Bandler and John Grinder were curious to learn how certain people were able to achieve such fantastic results in their lives. They began by researching three outstanding therapists Fritz Pearls founder of Gestalt, Virginia Satir (Family & Systemic Therapy) and Milton Erickson a medical doctor, psychiatrist and world renowned hypnotherapist. They studied them and developed “models” of how they achieved the results they did with their patients. Later, others in the field went on to model outstanding sports and business performers, including Walt Disney, to discover just how they did what they did. Or, in NLP terms, to discover the difference that makes the difference between those who achieve great success and those who don’t! From this original work a host of techniques and processes emerged. These are what NLP Practitioners use to help their clients overcome fears & phobias, gain confidence, address life stage dilemmas and much more.

BEWARE!
Not all hypnotherapy (or hypnotherapists or hypnotherapy training courses) are the same. At present there is no state regulation of hypnotherapy, so it is crucial that the public are well informed. When practiced ethically Hypnotherapy is essentially a form of psychotherapy that uses hypnosis as a tool to enhance results. Hypnotherapy does not provide a finger snap solution without input from the client. Hypnotherapy is a serious complementary therapy. (Complementary rather than alternative because it works really well in conjunction with allopathic treatment.) There are no swinging watches or “look into my eyes”. During hypnosis the client remains aware and in control, but also relaxed and focussed. No one can be made to do anything against their will in hypnosis. Hypnotherapy, as the name suggests, is a form of therapy. It is wonderfully solution focused and relaxing, and totally unlike the stage hypnosis used for “entertainment”.
