Health and wellbeing
in and around Essex

Health and Wellbeing covers such a huge range of subjects. In fact, we would say that everything within the Healthy Life website relates to ‘wellbeing’ (your own wellbeing and also that of the community and the planet). The emphasis is, as always, on holistic health and events that are going to provide information and / or the opportunity to perhaps try treatments yourself.

Advertising in the Health and Wellbeing events section is free of charge for all non-profit making organisations and events. Please e-mail the information to us.

For all other events there is a charge per entry (from £15). This will be waived if the advertiser also has at least one basic directory entry e.g. in Find a Therapist in Essex. A directory entry is only £5 per quarter and this would allow an unlimited number of events listings. Please Contact us for further information.

South Essex Recovery College
South Essex Recovery College is a small pilot project currently running in South Essex delivering various courses that are co-produced and co-delivered by a mental health professional (someone with learned experience) and a peer trainer (someone with lived experience). The courses work to help people recognise and make use of their talents and resources; explore their possibilities and develop their skills and to support people to achieve their goals and ambitions.
Who is The Recovery College for?
The South Essex Recovery College is open to people with lived experience of mental health conditions, their supporters and mental health professionals.
A little more about the courses that the Recovery College will be running between January and March 2015
All the courses are delivered in community venues offering a safe, relaxed, friendly and supportive environment and are free of charge to attend.
Introduction to Recovery
Introduction to Recovery is a short course delivered over a two week period, which will allow participants to explore what their recovery means to them and what it means to others. It will provide everyone with the opportunity to explore and value their own experiences and share their knowledge and insights with others while also learning from others. It will give participants an opportunity to take a fresh look at their own recovery planning and goal setting. This course is a useful introduction to the concept of recovery.
'Be You'
The 'Be You' course is an eight week course of three hours each using art, drama and creative writing to explore themes and ideas relating to recovery. Participants attending this course will have the opportunity to have fun and be creative while they explore what recovery has meant for them. Participants will have an opportunity to work on an art project individually, and to participate in range of exercises which will provide everyone with an opportunity to work as a larger group and in smaller teams. The course is structured to encourage expression, acceptance and celebration and is gentle enough for anyone who wants to build resilience as part of their recovery plan
Taking Back Control
Taking Back Control is a six week course providing participants with the opportunity to uncover their own resourcefulness and explore ways to overcome challenges. Participants will have the opportunity to develop self management skills and build confidence to get back in the driving seat of their lives. The course will provide everyone with the opportunity to develop a personal recovery toolkit which will include an advance statement..
