Fair Havens - 25 Year Journey
Fair Havens opened in 1983 as a result of local Christians coming together and identifying a need for hospice care in South East Essex.
In the last 25 years, in excess of 18,000 patients in the communities of Southend, Castle Point and Rochford have been cared for by a range of services, which include:
In Patient Unit
One-to-two nurse/patient ratio.
Three downstairs bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms – result of a £100k refurbishment programme.
Referrals may be made by anyone, including the patient themselves and their family.
Day Care Centre
Day care facility providing medical, nursing support as well as opportunity for clients to discuss emotional and spiritual concerns. Offers respite for family members/carers.
Other services include Diversional Therapy, Complementary Therapies, Spa bath with hoist facility.
Fair Havens Macmillan
Team of ten nurses, and two secretaries based at Fair Havens. Five funded by Fair Havens, and five by the local Community Trust.
Provide advice and support for families and patients on issues including symptoms, medication, financial and social support.
Unique service when initially launched.
Jointly funded by SPDNS and Fair Havens.
Specialist palliative care is provided in the comfort of the patient’s own home, for the last few days of their life.
Respite service is also offered.
Bereavement and Family Support.
Befriending and bereavement sitters.
“Travelling On” group sessions.
Approximately 350 new referrals per year.
Focused groups including, Young Partners and Daughters.
Committed Christians working with people of all faiths or none.
Chaplaincy team supporting patients and families emotionally and spiritually in any way they need.
Ministers of other faiths are welcome to visit patients if required.
Fair Havens services are available free of charge to those who need it living in the Southend, Castle Point and Rochford areas.
Fair Havens annual operating costs are £2.6 millions over 72% of our funding comes from charitable donations.

Holding small fundraising events on our behalf.
Becoming a Special Friend (regular income).

Fair Havens is part of Havens Hospices which also incorporates Little Havens Children’s Hospice. We have 10 shops within our local communities which provide a “face” of the hospice to people in our area.
Fair Havens has provided a beacon to thousands of families over the years, offering care, support and love through desperate times. Our dedicated team are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
You can either support Fair Havens by direct contribution, attending and supporting various fund-raising events, or even directly participating in something yourself.
