People who don’t suffer from allergies themselves rarely realise how debilitating they can be. Many people are sensitive to or intolerant of certain substances, but allergies affect the body’s immune system which can create longer-term and often hidden health implications. Of course, some people have such severe levels of allergy to specific substances that a life-threatening response called an anaphylactic shock may occur.
The number of people with allergies is increasing every year, particularly in children. The NHS web site says: “the reasons for this are not understood.” However, many complementary and alternative therapists do have very strong views on what is causing this continual increase and also ways of addressing the problem. Their thoughts are not always aligned with those of the medical profession!
